Dr. Raghunandan Lolabhattu: Stewardship, Service, and a Vision for AAPI’s Future
“Leadership is not about being in charge. It is about taking care of those in your charge.” This widely admired principle aptly reflects the professional journey of Dr. Raghunandan Lolabhattu, the new Treasurer of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI).
Assuming office alongside AAPI President Dr. Meher Medavaram and the newly elected executive leadership team during the 2026 AAPI Convention in Tampa, Florida, Dr. Lolabhattu brings decades of medical expertise, organizational leadership, and community service to one of the most influential physician organizations in the United States.
A graduate of Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad, India, Dr. Lolabhattu’s career reflects a commitment to excellence and perseverance. After completing his residency in Internal Medicine in New York City, he established a successful Internal Medicine practice in Dublin, Georgia, where he has served patients and families for more than twenty-five years. His professional accomplishments have been matched by an unwavering dedication to compassionate patient care and community engagement.
Dr. Lolabhattu’s passion for public service has deep roots. Raised in a family with a strong tradition of political involvement and civic responsibility, he developed an appreciation for leadership and service at an early age. Throughout his career, he has consistently translated those values into meaningful action, holding influential positions in professional, cultural, and community organizations. His leadership philosophy has always centered on collaboration, inclusiveness, and a genuine desire to improve the lives of others.

His impact is particularly evident through his leadership of organizations such as the OGKTMA, ATMGUSA, and the Georgia Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPI). During his tenure as president of these organizations, he successfully implemented initiatives that strengthened organizational growth while expanding community outreach. Through numerous charitable and humanitarian projects, he helped improve the lives of thousands of individuals, demonstrating that effective leadership extends far beyond administrative responsibilities.
For nearly fifteen years, Dr. Lolabhattu has been an active and influential member of AAPI, dedicating significant time and energy to advancing the organization’s mission. His service has spanned several important leadership roles, including Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees, Regional Director, and Chair of multiple national committees. These experiences have given him a comprehensive understanding of AAPI’s operations, challenges, and opportunities, preparing him well for the responsibilities of Treasurer.

Among his many contributions to AAPI, perhaps none illustrates his organizational abilities more clearly than his role as CEO and Chair of the 2023 AAPI Annual Convention. Widely recognized as one of the organization’s most successful national gatherings, the convention highlighted his capacity to unite stakeholders, manage complex logistics, and deliver exceptional outcomes. His leadership was also instrumental in the success of the AAPI Annual Conventions held in 2019, 2021, and 2022, where he served as Co-Chair.
Dr. Lolabhattu’s commitment to humanitarian service is equally noteworthy. As National Chair of the “Share a Blanket” initiative, one of AAPI’s flagship charitable programs, he mobilized state chapters across the nation to serve vulnerable populations. Under his guidance, nearly 20,000 homeless individuals received blankets and essential support, demonstrating AAPI’s commitment to addressing social needs while fostering compassion within the medical profession. His work exemplifies the belief expressed by Mahatma Gandhi: “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
As Treasurer, Dr. Lolabhattu has articulated a clear and forward-looking vision for AAPI. His primary objective is to strengthen and stabilize the organization’s financial foundation while upholding the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility. In an era when nonprofit organizations face increasing scrutiny and financial complexity, such stewardship is essential to sustaining long-term growth and member trust.
Equally important is his commitment to expanding AAPI’s membership and enhancing the value it provides to physicians. By developing meaningful member benefits, fostering professional networking opportunities, and supporting physician advocacy initiatives, Dr. Lolabhattu aims to ensure that AAPI remains a dynamic and relevant organization for current and future generations of Indian-origin physicians.

Recognizing that leadership succession is essential to any organization’s future, Dr. Lolabhattu is particularly passionate about mentoring young physicians. He strongly believes that engaging emerging leaders and encouraging their active participation will help secure AAPI’s continued growth and influence. His emphasis on mentorship reflects another enduring truth about leadership: “A society grows great when people plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.”
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Lolabhattu is a devoted family man. He has been happily married to his wife, Jyothi, for more than thirty years, and together they have raised two children. Outside medicine and organizational leadership, he enjoys hiking, travel, and music. His adventurous spirit has taken him to some of the world’s most challenging and inspiring destinations, including Mount Kilimanjaro, Everest Base Camp, Patagonia, the Inca Trail in Peru, and the Grand Canyon. These pursuits reflect the same determination, resilience, and curiosity that have defined his professional life.

As AAPI embarks on a new chapter, Dr. Raghunandan Lolabhattu’s combination of financial stewardship, visionary leadership, humanitarian commitment, and dedication to mentorship positions him to make a lasting impact. His journey serves as a powerful reminder that true leadership is measured not merely by personal achievement but by one’s ability to uplift others, strengthen institutions, and create opportunities for future generations. With his experience andcommitment, AAPI is well positioned to continue its mission of advancing healthcare, supporting physicians, and serving communities across the nation.
