Beginning Our Spiritual Journey With the 7 Days Course: Understanding the World Drama
According to the teachings, the transition from the Copper Age onward marked humanity’s gradual shift from soul-consciousness to body-consciousness, giving rise to devotion, multiple religions, and increasing division, while the present era is described as a time when God reveals the complete truth of the World Drama to help humanity prepare for spiritual renewal.
According to the teachings of the Brahma Kumaris, the World Drama unfolds over a 5,000-year cycle divided into four yugas, or ages. The first half of this cycle—the Golden Age (Satyug) and Silver Age (Tretayug)—is described as a period of harmony, purity, and spiritual awareness, often referred to as Heaven.
The next two ages—the Copper Age (Dwaparyug) and the Iron Age (Kaliyug)—span the following 2,500 years. During this period, it is believed that the consciousness of the divine beings who once lived in Heaven gradually shifted from soul-consciousness to body-consciousness. As a result, they came to be known simply as human beings rather than deities.
This transition also marked the beginning of bhakti, or the path of devotion. People began worshipping the one incorporeal God, as well as the idols of the pure deity souls who had once lived in Heaven and the revered saints and spiritual leaders who descended to Earth during the Copper and Iron Ages to share divine teachings.
The Brahma Kumaris describe the present world as Hell (Narak)—a realm characterized by impurity, sorrow, conflict, and peacelessness. Unlike Heaven, where there is said to be one kingdom, one religion, one language, and complete unity, today’s world is marked by multiple governments, religions, languages, and divisions among people. Over time, the virtues and attainments that existed in Heaven are believed to diminish gradually, reaching their lowest point at the end of the 5,000-year cycle—the present time.
The teachings further explain that God alone has complete knowledge of the World Drama. Human understanding of the world’s history, its ages, and spiritual truths has developed through individual experiences, interpretations, and connections with the Divine. This, according to the Brahma Kumaris, explains why different religious founders, saints, and scriptures have presented varying perspectives on the soul, God, and the nature of the world.
They believe that at the end of the Iron Age, God once again imparts the original spiritual wisdom, revealing the truth that underlies all previous teachings. This period is considered especially significant because humanity is believed to have reached the peak of moral decline, with increasing conflict, suffering, and vice.
The teachings also connect this spiritual decline with many of the challenges facing the modern world, including overpopulation, shortages of essential resources such as food, water, and clean air, as well as concerns over climate change, environmental degradation, natural disasters, and the growing threat of war. According to the Brahma Kumaris, these conditions signal the closing phase of the current cycle and the approach of spiritual renewal.
