International Day of Yoga Message Highlights Meditation, Spiritual Awareness, and Connection with the Divine
The International Day of Yoga message encouraged practitioners to use meditation, positive thinking, spiritual awareness, and disciplined daily habits to strengthen their connection with God and experience greater inner peace and well-being.
As millions around the world observed the International Day of Yoga on June 21, a spiritual message shared by the Brahma Kumaris encouraged practitioners to look beyond the physical aspects of yoga and focus on inner peace, self-awareness, and a deeper connection with the Divine through Rajyoga meditation.
The message highlighted the role of meditation in strengthening spiritual consciousness and cultivating qualities such as peace, purity, love, bliss, and inner strength. It emphasized that yoga is not only a physical discipline but also a spiritual journey that helps individuals reconnect with their true selves and with God.
The message focused on Rajyoga meditation, a spiritual practice that teaches individuals to experience themselves as souls and connect with God, described as the Supreme Soul residing in the Soul World.
According to the teachings, spiritual wisdom includes understanding the true nature of the soul and its original home, the Soul World, which is also regarded as the abode of God. Rajyoga meditation encourages practitioners to visualize themselves as radiant points of spiritual consciousness and experience God’s presence as a Supreme Being of Light who radiates peace, purity, love, bliss, and spiritual power.
The message explained that meditation helps restore these positive qualities, which are often diminished through life’s challenges, negativity, and material influences.
To help practitioners strengthen their meditation experience and improve spiritual visualization, five key practices were outlined.
The first emphasizes maintaining purity and cleanliness in thoughts, words, and actions. Practitioners are encouraged to develop soul-consciousness by experiencing themselves as peaceful and pure spiritual beings.
The second recommendation highlights the importance of a vegetarian diet. According to the message, consuming simple, sattvic food and preparing meals while remembering God helps fill both the body and mind with positive spiritual energy.
The third practice focuses on cultivating positive thinking and reducing negative or wasteful thoughts. A calm and positive mind, the message noted, creates a stronger connection with the Divine during meditation.
The fourth suggestion encourages regular “traffic control” of thoughts throughout the day. By periodically pausing and consciously slowing the flow of thoughts, individuals can improve concentration and mental clarity.
Finally, practitioners are advised to write a personal letter to God each night, sharing concerns, challenges, and emotions. The practice is intended to help release mental burdens and create a more focused and peaceful state of mind for meditation the following morning.
The message reinforced the idea that yoga is not only a physical discipline but also a spiritual journey that enables individuals to experience inner transformation, self-awareness, and a deeper connection with the Supreme.
