NAMAM Excellence Awards 2026 Honors Twelve Luminaries in a Grand Celebrationof Achievement and Service
NEW JERSEY – In an evening marked by inspiration, cultural pride, and community spirit, the NAMAM Excellence Awards 2026 honored twelve distinguished individuals whose contributions have enriched healthcare, education, literature, media, entrepreneurship, public service, philanthropy, and the arts. Held at the iconic Royal Albert’s Palace in New Jersey, the gala brought together diplomats, elected officials, cultural leaders, media professionals, and members of the Indian diaspora to celebrate lives dedicated not merely to achievement, but to service.

The awards ceremony reflected NAMAM’s enduring mission of recognizing excellence while inspiring future generations to pursue lives of purpose and social responsibility. Under the leadership of Founder and Patron Madhavan B. Nair, President Pradeep Menon, Secretary Bindu Sathya, and Treasurer Cyriac Abraham, the organization transformed the evening into a celebration of accomplishment, heritage, and community values.
Setting the tone for the evening, Madhavan Nair reminded the audience that true community is built not through institutions alone but through human connections and shared responsibility. “A community is born where human beings decide to live with mutual care. Care creates connections. Connections build strength. And that strength empowers others. That is the beating heart of NAMAM: Care, Connect, Empower,” he said, drawing enthusiastic applause from attendees.
President Pradeep Menon highlighted NAMAM’s wide-ranging community initiatives, noting that the organization’s mission extends far beyond cultural celebrations to include youth empowerment, educational support, health awareness programs, blood donation drives, family welfare initiatives, sports promotion, and community service projects. He emphasized that each program is designed to strengthen community bonds while creating meaningful opportunities for future generations.
“NAMAM’s strength lies not only in preserving our cultural heritage but also in serving our community through education, youth development, healthcare initiatives, family support programs, and volunteer service. Every initiative we undertake is guided by a simple goal: to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives and leave a stronger community for the next generation,” Pradeep Menon, President, NAMAM said.
The remarks echoed the organization’s longstanding commitment to empowering families, supporting youth, promoting wellness, and fostering community engagement throughout North America.
Honoring Excellence Across Diverse Fields
The evening’s highest recognition, the NAMAM Lifetime Achievement Award, was presented to renowned oncologist, researcher, educator, and healthcare leader Dr. M. V. Pillai, whose decades-long contributions to cancer care and medical education have benefited countless patients and families across India and the United States. His life’s work stands as a testament to the transformative power of knowledge, compassion, and service.
The NAMAM Excellence Awards were conferred upon:
- Padma Shri Hasmukh R. Shah for outstanding contributions to media.
- Dr. Sajimon Antony for community leadership and impactful social initiatives.
- Dr. Mathew K. Iype for contributions to literature.
- Dr. Nandini Menon for excellence in education.
- Sparsh Shah for extraordinary talent and inspirational achievement.
- Kishore Variyath for entrepreneurial excellence.
- Col. Virendra Tawatia for public service and philanthropy.
- Pandit Shree Raghu Sankaramanchi for social and heritage preservation.
The NAMAM Special Jury Citation of Excellence was awarded to veteran journalist George Joseph, visual media pioneer Sunil Tristar, and internationally acclaimed mridangam maestro Guru T. S. Nandakumar for their enduring contributions to journalism, media, and cultural preservation.
Excellence with a Higher Purpose
The awards ceremony highlighted not only professional accomplishments but also the broader impact these individuals have had on communities around the world. Reflecting on the significance of the honorees, Madhavan Nair observed, “The honorees recognized today come from diverse fields, but they are united by a single core value: they chose excellence over mediocrity, service over self-interest, and purpose over convenience.”

Dr. Sajimon Antony was recognized for his leadership in community development and humanitarian initiatives. As National President of FOKANA, he has championed disaster relief efforts, healthcare assistance programs, food security initiatives, and social welfare projects that have positively impacted communities across North America and beyond.
Literary award recipient Dr. Mathew K. Iype earned recognition for his contributions to contemporary literature, including his acclaimed novel Reborn Chains, submitted for Pulitzer Prize consideration in 2026. His work explores human resilience, hope, and the complexities of modern life.

Education awardee Dr. Nandini Menon was honored for championing innovative educational models that combine academic excellence with emotional intelligence, sustainability, and social responsibility, helping cultivate the next generation of global citizens.
Among the evening’s most inspiring stories was that of Sparsh Shah, the internationally renowned singer and motivational speaker who has overcome Osteogenesis Imperfecta, a rare condition commonly known as brittle bone disease. Despite experiencing more than 150 fractures in his lifetime, Sparsh has become a global symbol of resilience, hope, and determination, inspiring audiences around the world through his music and advocacy.
Entrepreneur Kishore Variyath, media pioneer Padma Shri Hasmukh R. Shah, philanthropist Col. Virendra Tawatia, spiritual and cultural leader Pandit Shree Raghu Sankaramanchi, journalist George Joseph, media archivist Sunil Tristar, and cultural ambassador Guru T. S. Nandakumar each represented a unique path to excellence while demonstrating an unwavering commitment to uplifting others.
Distinguished Guests Celebrate Community Leadership
The prestigious event was attended by Consul Tsewang Gyaltson, IFS, representing the Consulate General of India in New York; V. V. Rajesh, Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram; and veteran journalist P. Sreekumar, among other distinguished guests who joined in recognizing the awardees’ accomplishments. Their presence underscored the growing influence and achievements of the Indian diaspora worldwide.

“The global Malayali community possesses immense talent, experience, and resources. Thiruvananthapuram is eager to strengthen its partnership with Non-Resident Indians, particularly in areas such as education, healthcare, technology, entrepreneurship, and cultural development. Together, we can create opportunities that benefit both our city and our diaspora communities abroad,” said V. V. Rajesh, Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram.
NAMAM Executive Committee members, including Dr. Latha Nair, Abhijit Shirodkar, Sheela Joseph, Harikrishnan Rajmohan, George Nadavayal, Dr. Asha Menon, Malini Nair, Priya Subramaniam, and Dr. Thankamani, together with numerous volunteers, presented citations, plaques, medals, and certificates to the honorees.
Coffee Table Book and Cultural Showcase
A major highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the NAMAM Coffee Table Book, a collection of profiles featuring 40 Distinguished Individuals from the Indian diaspora whose achievements have left a lasting mark across diverse sectors. The publication received widespread appreciation for documenting the stories, sacrifices, and successes of community leaders whose journeys continue to inspire future generations.
The gala also featured a vibrant cultural program. Performances by the Thaalsootra Band captivated attendees, while the Sonali Vyas Dance Company delivered elegant dance presentations that added color, energy, and artistic excellence to the celebration. Music, lighting, multimedia presentations, and a formal dinner created an atmosphere worthy of the occasion.
Building a Legacy for Future Generations
Throughout his keynote address, Madhavan Nair emphasized that NAMAM’s vision extends far beyond organizing cultural events. “Culture gives us identity. But culture alone is not enough. A strong community must also educate. It must serve. It must inspire. It must prepare the next generation,” he noted.
Explaining the organization’s guiding philosophy, he added, “Every program may look different, but every program answers the same question: How can we make someone’s life a little better today than it was yesterday?”
Addressing young members of the diaspora, Nair used the awards as a call to action: “Dream boldly. Work honestly. Serve generously. And never forget where you came from.”
As the evening drew to a close, he challenged attendees to think about the legacy they would leave behind. “When history looks back at our generation, what will it remember? Will it remember the titles we held, the wealth we accumulated, or will it remember that we built a community where no one stood alone and a legacy our children would be proud to continue?” he asked.
In perhaps the most memorable reflection of the night, Nair summarized the deeper meaning of the organization and the awards it presents.
“The story of NAMAM is not simply preserving a culture, but preserving compassion; not simply celebrating success, but creating opportunities; not simply building an organization, but building a family.”
As twelve extraordinary individuals stood together on one stage, the NAMAM Excellence Awards 2026 became far more than a recognition ceremony.
